Chaikofi: A Yellow and Black Concept Cafe
Being a curious soul even way back in my college freshman days, I got intrigued by the modern and hip-looking concept cafe that is Chaikofi. Located in Robinsons Place Manila, Robinsons Pioneer and SM North The Block, this cafe drenched in black and yellow boasts of a novel and contemporary ambiance and possesses a strong "feel-good, chillax" vibe. So for a young student, this concept cafe definitely attracted me to pay it a visit. But of course, first impression is never the only impression. So on my first and succeeding trips, I was always looking for the food quality and value for money.Update: Chaikofi closed its mall branches. As of the moment, they can only be found at NAIA - Terminal 3.
I can't count the number of times we've visited Chaikofi, but I'd never forget the Crab & Mango Salad (P125) which we'd always order as it's a harmonious blend of shredded kani, sweet ripe mangoes, lettuce and dressing. It may look simple, but it's one salad that I really really like! However, I think the serving size is a little small for its price.
Throughout our succeeding visits, we've also tried their Panini Verdure (P130) which is a very healthy vegetarian sandwich served with chips on the side, Bavette al Pamodoro (P140), Beef Chai Rice (P115) and Chunky Chicken Sandwich (P105) -- all of which taste okay, but are on the pricier side considering their small serving portion. So with these, I think I'll have to rate the items mediocre since there was nothing exceptional.
However, I have to say otherwise with some of their beverage items since I totally dig the Black Tea (P70) and Green Tea (P70), both of which taste good and were fairly-priced. They come with different fruit-flavored syrups which you have to mix in your chai tea. In addition, I've been meaning to try their coffee to see how it fares. Maybe I'll order one when I come across another Chaikofi branch.
THE VERDICT
After a few visits, I think Chaikofi's food offerings are pricey especially for a simple student. And since most of the dishes I've tried tasted so-so, I don't think I'll be dining here regularly. However, I can say that Chaikofi's edge would be on its chai teas, as well as its cozy and modern ambiance. Maybe if you just want to sip a drink and have some light snack as you chat with your old buddy or read a book, Chaikofi is the place to be. But for a hungry stomach, you can always opt to pass.

ReplyDeletemany coffee shops closed in the past few years including chaikofi, i think its over priced and not competitive enough to match starbucks, coffee bean and tea leaf...
