Gelatissimo: An Italian Gelato Haven
For many months now, I have been hearing nothing but great things about Gelatissimo, an Australian gelato chain boasting freshly and daily-made sweet concoctions. I first saw it at Greenbelt 5 last November before I met up with blogger friends for dinner at Cerveseria. I wanted to try their gelatos right away, but the line was too long. There were about 20 people in line even reaching outside the store's doors. And even after our bloggers' dinner, the line at Gelatissimo was still equally disheartening.
My next sighting of the Australian gelato store was in Trinoma before the end of December. Although there wasn't a long line, its seemingly-cozy lounge was full. Not a good place to chill while waiting for friends. Fortunately though, after our Cyma late lunch last week, Gelatissimo's Trinoma branch was finally free of a large crowd.
After stepping foot in the store, I was surprised to see how spacious this branch is. There were quite a few tables, some sofas, and even throw pillows. They also have chandeliers and an interesting paper cup display by the doors. The whole area was just so welcoming and comfy, especially with the dim lighting and the red and cream color combo.
But of course, Gelatissimo is probably not booming just because of its cozy interiors. So after saving a seat, my date and I delved into their really wide gelato selection. And let me tell you that I kid you not when I say wide, because Gelatissimo doesn't only have one chiller. They have two -- one for dairies and sorbet, and another one especially for chocolate variants which are part of their Christmas of Chocolate promo.
Being more of a sorbet and dairy lover, I spent most time tasting the flavors in the first chiller. My date on the other hand, enjoyed the chocolate overload at the second chiller. Everything we've tasted were good. Even the ordinary and ice cream staple flavors have a nice and distinctly-Gelatissimo taste. It was no use to ask the staff about their bestsellers because almost every flavor they offer is selling great. It will just depend on the customer's preference.
Sorry, my date already ate a big chunk of his gelato before I took the photo.
In the end, my date and I found ourselves getting a double-scoop in a cup (P160) -- Macadamia & Caramel and Green Tea combo for me, while my date had Veronese Chocolate and Chocolate Truffle. We both enjoyed the gelato flavors of our choice and had a truly nice and relaxing stay in Gelatissimo's store. My date just had one thing to complain about -- the store's soothing but Italian music. I don't mind it though.
THE VERDICT
Gelatissimo's branches are always jam-packed and I now understand why. They have a wide assortment of gelato flavors which are rich in taste and quality, the ambiance of their store is just so cozy, their service is excellent, and the pricing is very reasonable and competitive. The dessert shop also serves sundaes, Italian biscotti and even coffee, making Gelatissimo a perfect place not only to grab a sweet treat but also to lounge around.

I've never really tried Gelatissimo ever because I was too scared of its prices. But now that you've mentioned it, perhaps a little indulgence wouldn't hurt.:)

ReplyDelete@michymichymoo and @michi: So far, I only know of their 3 branches in the Metro.. Greenbelt 5, Trinoma and Serendra. They also have Cebu branches.. :)
ReplyDeleteI miss this! We used to buy a cup back when we were still reviewing for the board exam in Cebu.
ReplyDeleteNo Gelatissimo branch in our hometown. :(
Yay, my daughter would love to try their berry flavor gelato. Yum!
ReplyDeleteI've tasted every flavor they have in the Christmas of Chocolate promo and I strongly recommend the Sugar Free flavor, I know, I know the name doesn't sound enticing but that's just the name, wait until you've tried it XD
ReplyDeleteHope they keep all those flavors around, if not...well...then I won't be going back, not until the chocs are back LOL I'm SO NOT a fan of fruit flavored ice cream or gelato for that matter xp

ReplyDeleteFound your blog through My Mom Friday. Wow, this place looks awesome. Too bad when I was last in Manila in 2009 (I live in Toronto), I didn't think this was in Trinoa yet. Good review of the place, though.
ReplyDeleteomg that looks SO good. I love gelato! it looks so pretty inside too!
ReplyDeleteI'm still a Sebastian's fan when it comes to ice cream, though Gelatissimo comes a close second. (=

First time I tried this was in Cebu about 3 years ago. I'm glad they brought it here to Manila :D !
ReplyDeleteHeaven on Earth. ^_^
ReplyDeleteI myself am addicted to gelati.
Ang sweet ng simple date ninyo. Reminds me of gelateria's here. Dito it's mostly gelato's like those in the picture. Nakaka miss tuloy mga regular ice cream. :P
ReplyDeleteI always had a glance to this place whenever I went to Trinoma. I really wanted to go there but I think it’s quite expensive there because the ambiance of the store looks so sophisticated that it seems their products are expensive too.
ReplyDeleteI think it’s worth naman if I’ll try this place, because you won’t give them the 5/5 for taste if it’s not so good. And since they have pistachio flavor which is my favorite flavor for gelato, I’ll definitely check this and forgot about the price tag. HEHEHE
love,
http://sweetandspicytown.blogspot.com/
