Daily Quickie: Nongshim Hot & Spicy Shin Ramyun
Daily Quickie is a short tag on the title which I use for blog entries about food I'm snacking at home, work or anywhere.
Being a foodie without a talent in cooking, I've always relied on easy-to-cook foods whenever I'm left alone at home without anything ready-to-eat to snack on. One of these instant foods that I always find myself reaching for are instant noodles. They're so easy to cook, and even a 7-year old child can prepare this no brainer dish. And throughout the years, I've always been loyal to the Lucky Me! brand, and occasionally, Nissin.
Japanese and Korean brands of ramen or ramyun have been making a buzz within my circle of friends. Fortunately, my beau who is my foodie partner and who I always refer to as my date, gave me 3 packs of Nongshim Shin Ramyun in Hot & Spicy flavor about a month ago. And although I am a big fan on instant noodles, this Korean brand didn't impress me.
The Nongshim Hot & Spicy Shin Ramyun had a lot of dry toppings compared to local brands. However, this Hot & Spicy exuded nothing but hotness and spiciness. I know it's quite weird of me to expect a flavor apart from what the packaging says. But really, I expected to taste something more distinct.
When I asked my beau why he gave me these noodles, he admitted that his family didn't like it. It was too spicy for them. However, they had a box full of Nongshim Hot & Spicy Shin Ramyun given by a friend, so he just took a shot -- maybe I'd end up liking it. I didn't though.
Anyway, since I still have 2 more packs and he has 4 more, we'll be giving away 6 packs of the Nongshim Hot & Spicy Shin Ramyun to 2 Metro Manila residents who want to try them. Just let me know in the comments section, and we'd be happy to hand or ship them over to you at no cost.
How about you, have you tried some Japanese and Korean instant noodles? Care to share your favorite brands?

ReplyDeletewhat time do you usually eat those? because i was told that noodles aren't good for midnight snacks. why? picture leaving the noodles on the water, parang inaabsorb nya ung water dbuh, ganyan rin dw mangyayari sa tian. that's why mostly ung nagsuffer from "bangungot" noodles dw ang minsan nakikita nila....mmmmh

ReplyDelete@Sionee: I think I just didn't like it 'cause it was too spicy for me.. :( Maybe if I've had other flavors, I would've liked it too.

ReplyDeleteGoing back to the topic, I was never a fan of foreign instant noodles until I tried this one certain korean spicy instant noodles from one of friend's house. Sadly, I never had the chance to get the brand, and so my journey to finding that certain noodles begin :)

ReplyDeleteHm.. I liked their orange ones. It is less spicy. I do agree that their hot & spicy is, nothing but hot and spicy lol. XD hubby enjoys it though, because packaged pinoy noodles that claim to be so, isn't spicy enough for him.
ReplyDeleteToo spicy for me, but I ate this with half of the spice in it nalang para less spicy :)
ReplyDeleteI wanna try that. I love spicy noodles (or food in general) :D
ReplyDeleteI've tried this noodle years ago. I forgot how it taste like, but it's not that bad.:) However, I try to avoid instant noodles now. Hindi kasi healthy and mataas ang sodium.:(

ReplyDeleteI love the actual Ramyun but sometimes it can be too spicy! o__O I think this is the same brand as the instant ramyun I have tried before since the packaging is also color red. But I'm not that sure because the one I bought before was not that spicy.

I've tried it here in KSA and it's really spicy and hot. I'd preferred our versions of spicy noodles. Though, generally I like Korean cuisines.
