Tous Les Jours: My Strawberry Birthday Cake
Last week, I intimately celebrated my 21st birthday with my 4-piece family. We had a simple but filling dinner at Causeway, and when we got home, it was time to finally blow my birthday cake. If you're wondering, we didn't bring the cake to the restaurant 'cause I didn't want it to melt while we're on the road. Just look at how pretty and delicate-looking it is!
This beautiful Strawberry Inspiration (P598) cake was bought from a South Korean French-Asian bakery in SM The Block -- Tous Les Jours. Although my family is not a big fan of strawberries, I decided to have this as my birthday cake. (It's my birthday anyway!)
Strawberry Inspiration is a lovely layered strawberry cake filled with real strawberries, topped with fresh yogurt cream icing, and dusted with natural strawberry and green tea powder. Although I don't go gaga for real strawberries, I actually like pastries and cold confectioneries which come in this particular flavor.
Like what I predicted, my family just got themselves a few bites off my cake and everything else was mine. The strawberry base cake was moist and had a mild flavor, while the yogurt cream icing made the whole cake taste sweet. There were also real strawberry pieces cut in quarters sandwiched between the last two layers, adding a hint of acerbity to the pastry. And although the lovely powder dusted on top of the cake looks harmless, it may make or break the cake. Eating the top part alone is actually a no-no for someone who doesn't dig sour foods. But when eaten with the layered cake, the flavor becomes a lovely blend of sweet and sour. Be wary with the green powder though, it was really bitter however you eat it.
Aside from the lovely Strawberry Inspiration cake, Tous les Jours offers a lot more pretty cakes for both birthday celebrants and non-celebrants alike.
Tous les Jours also has cake rolls of different flavors -- chocolate, mocha, lemon, cream cheese, strawberry, and even walnut and honey.
And since this shop wouldn't be a bakery without breads, they offer various freshly baked ones every single day. Tip: Drop by their store from 8:30PM on weeknights and get most of their breads at 50% off.
They also have a wide selection of beverages -- different kinds of coffee, milk, juices, and others that I don't know. (How I wish I can read Hangul.)
If you'd notice, the treatment of these photos are way different than how I usually do my food shots. I won't be converting to a new post-processing style though. I just thought this treatment looks nice on these cakes and pastry photos.
THE VERDICT
From the Strawberry Inspiration cake and 5 types of breads we got from Tous Les Jours, I can definitely say that this is a must-visit bakery and pastry shop. Not only do they carry a lot of beautiful cakes and a wide selection of breads, they also boast of offering only the freshest daily baked items, staying true to what the French word "Tous les Jours" mean -- every day.
