Peanut Butter Company: For the Love of Peanut Butter
Do you have a favorite food item you wish was in every dish you could eat? Well, I do. Being a kid who grew up on peanut butter, I can eat this nutty and creamy treat with bread, biscuits, pancakes, bananas or even just a plain spoonful of itself. Fortunately though, there's a food establishment witty and courageous enough to offer more exciting food combos for peanut butter lovers like myself -- Peanut Butter Company (PB Co.).
Honestly, I'm not sure if PB Co. is a local food venture inspired by the New York-hailing Peanut Butter & Co. Sandwich Shop. What I'm sure of though is that this single-concept establishment has already made a great buzz in the realm of local foodies. With branches in Paseo Center, Katipunan and Mall of Asia, PB Co. has surely been satisfying the peanut butter cravings of PB lovers in the Metro.
Since the beau and I was already in SM Mall of Asia last night, it was just fitting that we finally try this peanut butter haven. Although my date isn't as big of a PB fan as myself, he gladly agreed to try out PB Co.. For a Monday night dinner, it was surprising that PB Co. has 3 occupied tables and a couple of orders for take-out. Despite the small and simple white-drenched space, PB Co. must've attracted customers thru its peanut butter-infused dishes.
For a light start, we first had a serving of peanut butter-free Fish and Chips (P165) that comes with a peanut butter-infused sour cream dip. Although I'm quite picky with my fish, PB Co.'s version definitely satisfied me texture-wise and taste-wise. The batter was light, slightly crisp and not too greasy. The fish meat was also cooked to a perfect tender. The chips on the other hand, were rather average for my taste even when eaten with PB Co.'s own creamy, tangy and slightly nutty concoction of accompanying dip.
We then proceeded to our main course with a Cold Asian Noodles Combo Set (P125). This pasta dish is one interesting item with al dente-cooked spaghetti tossed in a blend of oriental dressing and PB Co.'s Sesame Peanut Butter. Although I totally dig this pasta dish, the savory sauce becomes a little tiring on the taste buds after a while. Good thing, the fresh slices of tomatoes give off a nice refreshing balance to the whole ensemble.
We also got a Curry Chicken Spaghetti Combo Set (P145). Although I like curry, I prefer the previous pasta dish more. The grilled chicken pieces of this plate tasted great, but the blend of creamy white sauce with PB Co.'s Curry Peanut Butter wasn't too memorable for me. I guess I wasn't getting much of the peanut butter hint in the curry mixture.
Both the pasta combo sets came with half a slice of peanut butter sandwich and a tall glass of iced tea. While I was happy of how filling the portions were, the peanut butter sandwich was a little too tamed for my peanut butter-loving palate. The spread was even, but way thinner than how I usually put peanut butter on my toasted bread.
THE VERDICT
Although I liked my first experience at PB Co., I wasn't blown away yet. For a peanut butter-loving person, I have to shamelessly admit that I had a little umay moment with the cold pasta dish. However, I'll still be returning to this peanut butter haven to try their Classic Spaghetti, BBQ Wings and Burgers. It also wouldn't hurt to take home a jar or two of PB Co.'s own concoction of creative peanut butter spreads.

Such an adventurous foodie, Sumi! :) I've also seen PB Co. in Katipunan whenever I pick-up my sister in Ateneo. But I never really had the guts to try dining there since I'm really not much of a Peanut-Butter-kind of gal. :P
ReplyDeleteI've been passing by this place a couple of times at MOA... and I always am tempted to try it out... but for some reason, my friends think its a waste of money to pay for just peanut butter... LOL.. I kept telling them that its not really just not peanut butter alone! I'll show my friends this post so they could finally agree on trying it out hahaha
