Stackers Burger Cafe: A Taste of Auss'm Burgers
Even though I've eaten quite a lot of burgers lately, I still don't consider myself a true blue burger fanatic. However, even as a casual burger muncher, it never hurts to grab some for a quick bite. So when the beau and I were out to watch The Amazing Spider-Man movie in Eastwood, we decided to visit Stackers Burger Cafe for a pre-movie snack.
Located at Eastwood City Walk, Stackers Burger Cafe is a 24/7 burger house and diner right smack in front of the whole resto-filled plaza across the New Eastwood Mall. And although this is the first time I'll be blogging about this burger destination, Stackers isn't really a stranger to me nor to my tummy. However, since it's been years since my first and last trip to this food spot, I felt as if I were getting to know an acquaintance better.
Although it's been a while since I've entered Stackers Burger Cafe's dining space, it felt very familiar. For years, the diner probably hasn't had a drastic change with its interior as I can still remember its clean white ceilings. Walls on the other hand, were tiled with hues of calming neutral shades, perfectly framing the poster-filled big picture windows. There is also a big mirror at one side of the resto, giving off an illusion of a wider dining space.
The Food
Since my first and last trip to Stackers Burger Cafe was more than a year before I started blogging (probably overwritten by my thesis term memories), I can barely remember the specific food items I got to try. All I can recall is I was quite satisfied with my burger choice, and nothing more, so I was more than excited to order this time.
For this visit, I decided to go for the Fisher's Burger (P148), a quarter-pounder of crispy batter-swathed cream dory, tartar sauce and lettuce between Stackers' signature buns.
Although I've already had my fair share of fish burgers in the past, this is definitely one of the biggest ones I've had. Believe it or not, I brought it along with me to the movie house and I only got to finish it when the movie has already drawn to an end. It may not be directly due to its size, but it was quite overwhelming to easily finish off a very flavorful burger as the fish fillet was really savory with a hint of peppery spiciness.
The beau on the other hand, had the Double Stacker (P161), a classic burger of two 100% Australian beef patties with lettuce, tomato, onion bits and mayo sandwiched in regular-sized buns. Aside from the weird pricing, I have to say that I really dig this burger. It may not have cheese in it nor any other fancy ingredient, but it was already good as it is. The patties were very tender and succulent, a mark of a simple yet auss'm burger.
Although I've promised to cutback on fries, I just can't seem to do it. So for sidings, we ordered the Garlic Chips (P65), big cut crispy fries tossed in herbs and bits of garlic. These garlic fries still have some potato skin on, so they're probably made in-house. And even though they're not to-die-for, they're really enjoyable treats for mindless munching.
The Drinks
One can opt to add P65 to any burger choice for a siding of fries and a 16oz. drink. However, since we saw an interesting selection of beverages on the menu -- coffees, fruit shakes, milkshakes and drink ala mode, we decided to order our drinks separately.
I got the Strawberry Milkshake (P95), a thick, smooth and creamy concoction of ice cream and strawberries which tasted very refreshing with just the right amount of sweetness, and a whole lot of berry goodness. Being a coffee and a caramel lover, the date went for the Auss'm Caramel (P135), a cold coffee blend with caramel syrup and then topped with some soft serve ice cream. While I personally enjoyed my choice of drink, I liked this cold coffee beverage as well. The coffee itself is quite bitter to begin with which makes it a perfect base for the (flavoring and sweetener) caramel and ice cream.
THE VERDICT
Stackers Burger Cafe may not offer fancy gourmet burgers, so don't expect foie gras, truffles or even Wagyu in the mix. But for simple yet tasty bundles of meat in buns, this is definitely a good place to check out. And with friendly and courteous service, a nice ambiance and a door that never closes, we're sure to pay Stackers another visit.
