Blue Toque: The Ultimate Mousse Cake and More
It's no secret that I'm a big dessert person. Whether it's cupcake, jelly, ice cream or whatnot, there'll always be space in my tummy allotted for sweet goodies. So when my friend Berylle had me try some treats from Blue Toque, I went giddy and gladly obliged.
Blue Toque is a new venture by Chef Mary Anne Ramos who hailed from both the Ateneo de Manila University and the International School for Culinary Arts and Hotel Management, hence the name of her dessert brand. And although Blue Toque hasn't been in the scene for long, it has been gaining quite a buzz and a long list of patrons.
If you love attending food events and weekend markets, you've probably crossed path with Blue Toque already. From the Ultimate Taste Test 8.0 and Foodgasm 2012 events, this budding dessert brand has bagged the "UTT's Overall Winner on Dessert Category" and "Foodgasm Grand Champion & Experts' Favorite" for one of its creations.
And I'm talking about none other than this amazing multi-layer Belgian chocolate cake called The Ultimate (P150 Slice; P625 6-inch; P1,195 9-inch). As a chocolate cake lover, I can definitely put loads and loads of stamps of approval on this wonderful creation. Each layer was laid down with love and care which can successfully entice even the toughest of the dessert haters. And upon taking my first bite, it was pure bliss! The mousse layers melt beautifully on the palate, and what follows next is an enjoyable crunch. Even when stored in the fridge for a few days, this treat is still as good!
Fortunately for northies like me, this Blue Toque signature mousse cake is now readily available at The Parvati Store in Trinoma.
Another cake I got to try is the Nutella Mousse Cake (P575 6-inch; P875 8-inch) which was showcased in the recent Ultimate Taste Test 10.0. Compared to The Ultimate though, this one is less sweet and has a lovely hazelnut flavor which I love. And although I still prefer the award-winning Belgian chocolate cake, Nutella lovers will surely be left satisfied after getting a taste of this new mousse cake creation from Blue Toque.
Aside from cakes, they also have the Belgian Chocolate Chip Cookies (P195 6-Piece; P310 10-Piece; P300 35 bite-sized) which are delectable treats loaded with generous chunks of Belgian chocolates. And as a cookie lover, I can guarantee that these cookies are worth trying. They have just the right amount of sweetness and have all the characteristics of a good cookie, firm and slightly crispy, yet soft and chewy when eaten.
We also got to try some bite-sized Nutella Cookies (P195 6-Piece; P310 10-Piece; P300 35 bite-sized) which aside from being as chewy as the Belgian chocolate chip ones, are quite sweeter as they're infused with all the goodness of Nutella.
Last among the treats we got to sample were the Cream Cheese Brownies (P225 6-Piece; P285 8-Piece) which are moist and fudgy brownies with swirls of cream cheese. While these are really yummy with just the right amount of sweetness, I feel like they only rank second next to The Ultimate which is my most favorite Blue Toque creation.
After getting a taste of Blue Toque's sweet treats, especially The Ultimate, I sure became a big fan! And with such high quality and yummy goodies, I'm sure they'll make the perfect gifts for your sweet-loving family and friends this holiday season.
