Bon Appetea: A New Kind Of Milk Tea Brew
On the "Basta driver, food lover" episode of POP Talk in which I was a guest reviewer, we chilled at Bon Appetea in España and shot the verdict portion here after checking out 3 driver-recommended carinderias. While I had cough and cold that particular day, I just couldn't say no to free milk teas especially since it's from a shop I haven't tried out yet.
Since Bon Appetea in España is just a walk away from universities and colleges in the area, the place was swarmed with a lot of students. I wasn't able to take photos of the place 'cause I wanted to respect the privacy of the customers, but this Bon Appetea branch strongly reminded me of another milk tea shop for its bright, laid-back and trendy ambiance with walls filled with colorful post-it notes from their milk tea-loving patrons.
You all know that I love milk teas, and having tried out quite a lot of milk tea shops in the Metro, I decided to be more adventurous with my choice of beverage that evening. I opted to get the Red Velvet with Cheese Foam (P100 Medium; P110 Large) -- one of the newest milk tea flavors which I had with Pearl (P10) sinkers. Honestly, I thought this came from their Yakult line 'cause I got to taste a hint of Yakult in there. However, on subsequent sips, you'll get that distinct red velvet cocoa flavor which blends nicely with the sweet, salty and creamy cheese foam on top. This drink, I'd say is for those who are milk tea risk-takers 'cause the taste is quite distinct and might not suit everyone's palate. However, I have to give it to Bon Appetea for having the softest, chewy tapiocas I've ever had in a drink! They use a timer to make sure the pearls are perfect, every time.
But I think, I'll have to go back to Bon Appetea soon to try this flavor again and give a more concrete review. Being in a taping while having this milk tea took my mind out of really getting a good taste of this beverage. (Will update this post by then.)
We were served a whole lot of drinks which I think weren't mainly for consumption, but just for shooting purposes. So instead of letting them go to waste, I decided to just have them. And while I took everything else home, I drank the Wintermelon Tea with Cheese Foam (P100 Medium; P110 Large) plus Egg Pudding (P15) sinkers on the way. Compared to my original choice of milk tea, this drink will probably suit the general public's taste more. It was sweet, very refreshing and tasted great with the egg pudding and cheese foam on top. If you'll ask me to compare it head to head with other wintermelon milk teas though, I'd say this has a deeper and richer flavor in general.
I took home the Caramel Frappe (P90 Medium; P100 Large) which my little sis gladly devoured. She's not a big caramel fan, but she really liked this frappe flavor. She said the caramel taste wasn't too overbearing, and she digs the smooth and creamy consistency.
It may seem too much, but since no one wanted to take the strawberry-flavored one, I ended up drinking the Strawberry Frappe (P90 Medium; P100 Large) with Pearl (P10) sinkers. (Sugar overload!) While I loved the tapioca pearls, and dig the creaminess of the frappe, I felt the strawberry flavor was a little too artificial for my liking. On the other hand, my mom loved the Chocolate Frappe (P90 Medium; P100 Large) which she devoured in just a few sips! She said she likes how it's really chocolatey without being too sweet.
THE VERDICT
I know I love cold beverages, but I have to admit that drinking 2 milk teas and 1 frappe in just a single night was not healthy! Surprisingly though, my cough and cold didn't become worse the next few days, but even became better. Anyway, although there have already been a lot of milk tea shops scattered all over the Metro, I'm happy that I've discovered yet another great milk tea shop to get my milk tea fix. Bon Appetea may not be in every mall in town, but it sure serves great-tasting concoctions, and not to mention, the softest tapioca pearls I've ever had. Next time I visit a branch though, I'll make sure to try their House Pearl Milk Tea to see how their basic milk tea fares in the market.

ReplyDeletethis looks inviting. what a yummy refreshment - a must-try
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the wintermelon too!
ReplyDeletethese are good drinks but drinking too much is not really good and unhealthy just like you said. we have to drink in moderation :D
ReplyDeleteTrue! :) Just had to drink a lot that night though 'cause I don't want the milk teas and frappes to go to waste ^^
DeleteI am a milk tea lover! Ang dami ko pang hindi natitikman na milk tea, swear. Isa na yang bon appetea na yan. Wala kasing malapit dito eh. Sayang din sa pamasahe hehe sana magkaron sila ng branch near UST. Bebenta yan for sure kasi most UST students love milk tea :))
ReplyDeleteSis Mei, this Bon Appetea branch is actually near UST! :) It's just in España. Most of the customers nga when we visited were actually from UST! ;)
DeleteAnother milk tea experience. A little more and you'll be a milk tea expert knowing the difference of each one.
ReplyDeleteA red velvet milk tea!? I haven't seen that flavor in any milk tea shops I know. It's time to search for a branch near work and home :D
ReplyDeleteNot a milk tea fan but I tried their Cocoa with RSC, I wasn't happy with it. :\

These sounds and looks delicious and healthy too! I always love TEA, and now I've been indulging with Chai tea latte and this one sound the same but better.
ReplyDeleteOh wow that looks yummy to try. I did not drink tea but like to try.
ReplyDeleteDang! I still yet to try milk tea. These ones look and sound tempting to me. I wish I can get me a glass of milk tea soon.
ReplyDeleteI love any kind of thirst-quenchers specially with pearls in it.It all looks very good.
ReplyDeletelooks yum and refreshing...
ReplyDeletelooks refreshing and it makes me thirsty by just looking at the ice cold drrinks :-)
ReplyDeleteI love tea and I like refreshing drinks too. This sounds really good :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a refreshing treat! Personally, strawberry is too much for a flavor for me but I sure won't pass on the Choco Frappe. Wintermelon tea sounds cool to though I'm still yet to try it. ;)
ReplyDeletelooks yum! would love to try the wintermelon tea :)
ReplyDeletecha dao and simplicitea are the only two milk tea shops here in our place. my daughter is over zealous over milk teas that we have to brave traffic at adriatico (last summer) to get a try at gong cha :)
ReplyDeleteThe first time I tasted Milk Tea was at Moonleaf and even though im not of a tea drinker, I really enjoyed it
ReplyDeleteI think I saw a branch of Bon Appetea near our place. I am loving tea now, especially milk teas with pudding or jelly. Sadly hubby is a hardcore Starbucks fan.
ReplyDeleteSumi, im craving for ze Red velvet with cheese foam right now! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat looks good. I will certainly try them when I get their in 4 weeks time :). Thanks for sharing! I think milk tea are popular in hot weather.
ReplyDeleteMilk Tea shops in Metro are popping out like mushrooms and their refreshing teas are addicting. So to save a little, I bought Brooke Bond Red Label tea and make my own milk tea at home. But I must admit that it is not as refreshing as the milk teas from Bon Appetea.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of this milk tea shop in Cebu yet.
ReplyDeleteI so love cold beverages, especially milk tea! I have not heard of this shop in Cebu either, so thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteyummmm! seems like really delicious!! :)
ReplyDeleteLove,
Dress Me Up Buttercup
Tasted most of their drinks last year. Bought a bunch of Bon Appetea vouchers from a deal site. In fairness, most of their drinks are delicious and nutritious.
ReplyDeleteHow would you compare their teas with Simple Line and Moonleaf? Parehong may branches din kasi sila sa may Espana :)
ReplyDeleteHi Cha! :) With milk teas naman, it all boils down to the preference of the buyer. Personally, I like Simple Line and how it's affordable, I prefer it over Moonleaf too though the latter is okay naman. For Bon Appetea, I like that they got frappes, but I still like the milk teas over at Simple Line more :) BUT, if you're adventurous, try Bon Appetea's more creative blends. They got drinks that other milk tea places don't have ;)
DeleteWow, you were in Pop Talk, I watch that show:) I have yet to try this drink:)
ReplyDeleteHave you tried their Naughteas? I have been able to try some of their drinks but I'm really curious about that one. :)
ReplyDeleteScores are relatively high...
ReplyDeletemight think about trying this brand.
Ive tried a lot of Milktea shops, and Bon Appetea would be on my top 5 list. The price is actually okay for having it in that big size cup. Never tried the red velvet tea before, so will be totally tasting it. :)
ReplyDeleteWe have 2 branches of Bon Appetea here in Iloilo, I think theyll add another one soon. Anyho0o, I love their milk teas. . the best part is the post-it-writing afterwards. . Haha!
ReplyDeletehindi ba masayadong matamis?
ReplyDeleteno Bon Appetea in Harbor Point Mall but it will be nice to try one, though not a fan of milk tea. summer season sets in and it this kind of drink will be a hit.
ReplyDeleteI love milk teas! Bon appetea is a new brand for me and I'd definitely want to try it out. It's very hot these days and milk teas are one way of quenching that thirst!
ReplyDeletechocolate frappe looks yummy,i love mlik tea, delicious and healthy
ReplyDeleteI've bought a large Red Velvet with Salt and Cheese Foam earlier today, and I regretted doing so. I was surprised to see strawberry, blueberry, and lemon syrup being poured into my drink, which was totally unexpected. My drink definitely didn't have that cocoa flavor I was looking forward to so much.
ReplyDeleteWoah! Maybe they got your order wrong? I can't vividly remember how their Red Velvet drink tastes like, but I believe mine even has a yakult hint into it.
