Silantro Fil-Mex Cantina: A Taste of Fil-Mex in Kapitolyo
Our second stop for the POP Talk Kapitolyo food trip episode was this fairly new Filipino-Mexican restaurant along East Capitol Drive, called Silantro Fil-Mex Cantina. And while I was already getting full when we reached the destination, just the mention of one of my favorite herbs got me all giddy, excited and fully enticed to taste their offerings.
More Restaurants in Kapitolyo, Pasig City:
For starters, we had a serving of Beef Nachos which had heapings of beef pieces, guacamole, tomato salsa, cilantros and melted cheese sitting atop a mountain of crispy tortilla chips. Seriously, these are the best nachos I've ever had in my entire food blogging life! It doesn't taste just one dimensional like most nacho items offered in other restaurants. It had an addicting combination of fresh, herby, savory and cheesy flavors.
I usually like my quesadillas with different kinds of fillings, but Silantro’s Quesadillas have proven to me that a good quesadilla can have just a few types of fillings but still be just as good, or actually even better. And yes, that's what I exactly got -- soft and warm tortilla exploding with loads and loads of cheesy goodness. Wish I had taken an even close-up photo of the gooey cheese though. That would've made a really sexy food porn!
For those who still get bothered by meatless quesadillas, there's the equally tasty and satisfying Beef Quesadillas which had the same amount of cheesiness but with the addition of tender and succulent beef pieces. And while I'm a big carnivore myself, I don't know but for some reason, I like the gooey and cheesy beef-less version a tad more.
It only took one bite, and I immediately included these Calliente Wings in my mental list of my most favorite chicken wings. Bearing the word "calliente" which means hot and fiery, these bright red babies will indeed test your spiciness threshold. After finishing a few pieces, my mouth was already starting to burn. My attempts to stop was futile though as these guacamole, cabbage shreds and cilantro-infused treats were so addicting! By the way, you can ask to have the spiciness level of these devils toned down.

2. Choose your meat. (Beef, Pork, Chicken, Lamb, Lengua or Oxtail)
3. Do you like your taco hot or cold?
4. Last step: Order another one. *wink*
As a taco lover, I was really happy to see that Silantro offers 6 different kinds of meat. We had the Medio Lucha Tacos with beef and lamb topped with tomato salsa, cabbage shreds, cilantro and a slice of avocado in a warm soft-shell taco, served with guacamole.
Silantro prides itself in their burritos, and I can see why. Unlike most burritos from other restaurants, Silantro's Burrito is bigger, meatier and have more "authentic" flavor. Rolled in a soft sheet of pita is a paella-like rice with tender and succulent beef bits, along with tomato salsa and cilantro, served with guacamole and sour cream on the side.
Burger lovers, fret not 'cause Silantro has something for you, the Pancholon's Burger which has a thick, meaty and succulent patty topped with tomato salsa and some cilantro. It also comes with a serving of guacamole which you can drizzle on the burger filling for more Mexican flavors, or leave it alone to serve as your fries' dipping sauce.
Silantro has beers and cocktails perfect to pair with its lineup of great-tasting Filipino-Mexican dishes. And while I wanted to try some of their alcohol-spiked drinks, I left it for my next visit and just settled for the refreshing and zesty Fresh Dalandan Juice.
THE VERDICT
I've only seen Mexican food as just okay enough for my palate. However, after trying out Silantro Fil-Mex Cantina, I can actually say that I've fallen in love. Everything we've had that day was really, really good, with most of the items being my favorites. And while I don't consider Silantro as a Filipino-Mexican food haven, but more of an "authentic" Mexican fare destination, I'll be sure to go back again and again to have my fix!
