Daily Quickie: California Crunch Cassava Chips
Daily Quickie is a short tag on the title which I use for blog entries about food I'm snacking at home, work or anywhere.
I can't believe I haven't posted a Daily Quickie for so long! I shouldn't have named this segment with daily, but meh. Anyway, today let me share with you something I've been constantly binging on, especially when I'm enjoying a session of movie or series marathon. It's California Crunch Cassava Chips, a healthier alternative to potato chips.
Although I try to limit my consumption of chips, I have to admit that I'm a big fan. That's why when I received four bags of California Crunch Cassava Chips at my doorstep last month, I lost my composure and hurriedly took photos so I can try them asap.
Cassava or kamoteng kahoy, is known to have twice the fiber content and a higher level of potassium than common potatoes. That in itself makes cassava a healthier alternative to potatoes. However, California Crunch Cassava Chips are made even healthier when directly compared to potato chips, as they contain 30% less fat and are even cholesterol-free. But of course, since these still have sodium, I tried my hardest to limit myself to just one bag a day. Although I have to admit, I finish a bag in just one sitting.
California Crunch Cassava Chips Sour Cream & Onions
California Crunch Cassava Chips come in just two flavors, and I was so glad to find out there's a Sour Cream & Onions variant. I'm a sucker for chips that come in this flavor, so this was the first bag I excitedly opened and tried. However, unlike most sour cream-flavored chips in the market, California Crunch has a stronger taste. When I first ate a chip, I was overwhelmed by the richness of the flavor. Even my little sister who loves tasty food more than I do, said these chips are too flavorful for her.
This is somehow a good thing though, as it prevented us from mindlessly gorging chip after chip. Imagine if you're eating bland chips. You'll need to pack more just to satisfy yourself. California Crunch made it easier to limit mindless consumption.
California Crunch Cassava Chips Barbeque
I'm generally not a big fan of barbeque-flavored chips, but I'd gladly down a bag of California Crunch Barbeque any time! Like the sour cream variant, this was also more tasty than other chips I've ever tried before. However, what made me love this is its complex flavor that tickles the palate. At first bite, you'll get to taste more of its sweetness. Then as you eat more, the heat gradually kicks in making it more enjoyable.
Since it's chips we're talking about, I'm sure you're curious as to how California Crunch Cassava Chips fare texture-wise. Unlike potato chips which are thin and delicately crispy, these cassava chips are thicker and more crunchy. You really get to feel them with every bite, and frankly, I think I've finally found my kind of chips!
I'm not sure if California Crunch Cassava Chips will still come up with other flavors in the near future. But as a new fan of their product, I wish they'd offer an original flavor, something plain or just lightly salted. (Ako na ang mahilig sa matabang. Haha!)
California Crunch Cassava Chips are available for P44.50 at SM Supermarkets, SM Hyper Markets, Mercury Drug Stores, Gourdo’s, Unimart, Super 8, Subic Royal Duty Free, and soon at other super markets and convenience stores.

ReplyDeletehealthier alternative to potato chips
ReplyDeleteUy, new discovery! I've been seeing this around but don't know why we haven't tried it yet. Just like you, I'm not a bbq flavored fan when it comes to chips (I can tolerate them and eat it if other bought it but wouldn't be my first choice). I'm surprised the sour cream was too flavorful. Hmmm...maybe they should be informed about it. I'm sure they'd appreciate your feedback. Sea salt flavor would be nice too but I'm thinking they may have already tried a salted variant (I mean wouldn't that be your first experiment?) but may have decided not to. Maybe still looking for the perfect salt. Would buy this in the grocery next. Thanks!
ReplyDeletethis is the first time ive heard about cassava chips,.
ReplyDeleteI would suggest them to anyone possibly starting try this site a business or even looking to develop!
