One of the very first events I attended when I started food blogging was a
tasting session at Stacy's. And although it took me a while to revisit, I was glad that my return is as special as how I see this restaurant. Aside from getting another taste of
Stacy's, I was on assignment to feature a breakfast dining spot for
Breakfast Magazine. And yes I chose
Stacy's, as for me, it's one of the most invigorating places to spend a beautiful morning.
I visited Stacy's back in December, thus the reason for the Christmas décor. |
From the very first step you take inside
Stacy's, you'll instantly get transported to a happy place. Even if dainty is not really your style, I'm sure you won't be able to resist the charms of the cute doll house-like interior, pastel color scheme and quirky eye candies that add a homey, personal touch. Add the beautiful morning lighting into the equation, and you'll definitely end up feeling revved up, ready to take your first spoonful of the day.
A Taste of Morning at Stacy's -- my article on Breakfast Magazine's February-March 2013 issue |
This is actually an important factor for me when choosing a breakfast spot. Good food is of course a given, but more than enticing just the palate, I want to have all of my senses perked up. And since I normally skip my morning meals, I need a breakfast place that will make the nocturnal in me wake up early and head to grab breakfast, willingly. And yes, the overall appeal of
Stacy's to a self-confessed doll like me, had that invigorating effect.
Although I've already made an article about
Stacy's on
Breakfast Magazine, let me share a more in-depth review of all the goodies I got to try for this trip.
✓ Grilled Shrimp with Sweet Pomelo and Mixed Greens in Asian Dressing (P175) |
Salad may not be my usual breakfast fare, but this serving of
Grilled Shrimp with Sweet Pomelo and Mixed Greens in Asian Dressing sure started off the meal with a beautiful harmony of flavors. Like how I felt when I got to taste this back in 2011, every mouthful was just an epitome of balance. On one end, there's the smoky, savory grilled shrimps. While on the other end, there's the refreshing and zesty pomelo pieces. And with the greens and Asian dressing thrown into the mix, everything ties well together.
Next was the
Monkey Toasts, an all-day breakfast item of fluffy cinnamon French toasts filled with sweet caramelized bananas, peanut butter and jam, then topped with powdered sugar and dark chocolate chips. As both a French toast lover and a banana-peanut butter and banana-chocolate fan, I found myself constantly biting one after another from this sweet, fruity, nutty and earthly-spiced breakfast creation. And of course, who can resist adding more of that whipped peanut butter served on the side?
Big Breakfast Bangers (P185) |
For a more balanced morning meal, the
Big Breakfast Bangers perfectly fits the bill. Every serving has a grilled sausage patty, sugar-dusted French toasts, cheesy scrambled eggs, and a cup of fresh fruits, so you get your much-needed carb, protein, vitamins and even some sugar in one order. Every element tastes good on its own too.
Although not really a breakfast item on the menu, the
French Connection can still be a nice morning fill. Made up of vanilla-butter French toast filled with Canadian bacon and melted Swiss cheese, and served with potato chips, aioli and light strawberry jam, this is a hearty comfort food item both with a familiar taste and an unexpected sweet-salty twist.
My most favorite item that day was the
Stacy Jones, a platter of tender yakiniku-cut US sirloin tapa smothered with fried garlic and served with "anyway you like 'em" eggs, fresh tomatoes, and heart-shaped garlic rice. I know, I know, this is so Pinoy and very reminiscent of
tapsilog. I guess this is probably why I like this dish so much. It's full of comforting Filipino flavors done right, and it has a nice name and a dainty presentation.
I don't normally eat bangus
(except for relyenong bangus), but this
Manila Pride dish -- a serving of marinated and pan-fried boneless bangus belly with mango and tomato salsa, creamy omelette and garlic rice, got me digging in. And while it wasn't really enough to convert me to a fried bangus lover, I can always consider when it's this particular item.
Shirley Temple (P88) and ✓ Pink Strawberry Milkshake (P98) |
For beverages, you can always go with coffee, tea or hot chocolate to comfortably start the day. But since I'm a dainty rock star, I had two pretty pink drinks to start my day instead --
Shirley Temple which is a carbonated concoction with strawberry syrup, and a glass of rich, thick and creamy
Pink Strawberry Milkshake. Yum!

This only a partial menu. I'll try to upload the other pages within the week. |
THE VERDICT
Although I've visited Stacy's before, for some reason, I feel like the food this time around was so much better. While I enjoyed the flavors on my first visit, this trip definitely left a better impression -- something that speaks strongly of "I must return." And with reasonable prices, good service, free buttered popcorn with pretzels and marshmallows (while waiting for your order), and a charming atmosphere to boot, I can see myself returning yet again to this lovely doll house called Stacy's.
