Blog Anniversary #4: Lia's Cakes in Season at Kapitolyo
When it comes to my sweet treats, the more unconventional it is, the better. I think this is actually the main reason why Lia's Cakes in Season and I click. They don't just offer the usual favorites, but carries out-of-the-box variants like avocado, orange and calamansi!
Located along East Capitol in Pasig City, Lia's Cakes in Season has been a trusty cake provider in a number of occasions for many foodies. It has also been one of our dessert destinations when we at The Foodies Circle had our pre-Christmas dinner last year.
Fast forward to 2013, I found myself inside this purple and apple green-donning cake shop, again nearing Christmas. Unlike last year though, Lia's Cakes in Season looked more vibrant this time, with pretty Christmas ornaments dangling from the ceiling. And unlike last year, I had the beau in tow who's also an equally big of a cake fan as me.
Lia's Cakes in Season offers a wide array of cakes, cupcakes, bars and other goodies, ranging from the usual flavors like chocolate, strawberry and blueberry, to the more unusual ones. And while the time-tested variants are enjoyable, it's the unconventional flavors that made Lia's Cakes in Season popular in the foodie scene. Actually, if you didn't know yet, they have always been known for their signature Avocado Cake.
While I'm a big fan of avocados, there's another item at Lia's Cakes in Season that piqued my interest. I haven't had this variant yet prior to this visit, but just the thought of trying it out (despite having no concrete expectations) already makes me giddy.
You probably guessed it right! Or not. It's the Calamansi Tea Cake with a calamansi-infused moist chiffon base topped with a sweet glaze and sprinkled with calamansi zest.
This is a winner in my book! I actually love this more than the famed Avocado Cake. Even the beau who doesn't favor unconventional flavors loved this too. Every forkful just gives off a beautiful medley of sweet and tart, although making it even tarter will surely put me to bliss! To best enjoy your Calamansi Tea Cake, try pairing it with coffee or tea.
Aside from the cake, there's also the Calamansi Talisan Loaf which is as good, or even better. The loaf itself is light, soft and airy, with a calamsi curd filling. Both the beau and I agreed that this is one addicting treat! It's not as dense nor as sweet as the cake, so you can definitely eat and enjoy more if it. We think we can actually finish 2 loaves each!
We also got to try the Calamansi Cupcake which is almost exactly like the cake version. When we first bit onto it, we really thought it's just a mini-me of the Calamansi Tea Cake. The cupcake base is softer though, but it has the same level of sweetness and tartness. I guess this is good should you want to easily sample the flavor.
Another calamansi-infused treat are the Calamansi Bars. If the cupcakes aren't handy enough for you, then these are the perfect bite-sized desserts to satisfy your craving as they sure satisfied mine. They're not entirely similar to the previous items though as I believe they're lighter, softer, less sweet, but just as tart. They also best exemplify the saying, "Big things come in small packages," as it was a unanimous decision. The beau and I agreed that this is the calamansi-infused treat we loved the most!
Now that I've shared my love for the calamansi-flavored treats at Lia's Cakes, it's your turn to try them! Thanks to the owners who generously sponsored this giveaway, we'll have not just a one-digit number of winners, but 20! Yup, you've read it right.
