Going Retro with Native Union POP Phone in Neon Yellow
Earlier this month, I received a very interesting phone accessory for review. You might have seen it already. You might have even loved it or hated it already. But let me share with you what I think about the Native Union POP Phone from a layman's point of view.
I think it was late last year when I started seeing a lot of ladies sporting a very retro phone handset in this modern and smartphone-infested age. My first reaction? WTF! I really didn't understand why they'd be lugging around big handsets which would inevitably take a lot of space inside the bag. Okay, it's cute. I get it, it's quirky. But is being hipster really worth more than one's convenience? Then, something unexpected happened...
The beau also started using the Native Union POP Phone.
Initially, I was shocked. I also pestered him with tons of questions why he started using one. I wanted to understand why my boyfriend who makes every effort to look and feel macho would use this trendy POP Phone. And after he told me why he decided to use it, I became intrigued. Then, I became interested to own one too.
The Native Union POP Phone comes in a variety of colors: red, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple, pink, black, white and many many more. Aside from solid colors, it can also come with prints, or even transparent! The beau uses a blue handset, while I fortunately received a neon yellow one -- something that's happy, bright and literally pops.
You might be wondering why I suddenly became interested after being a skeptic at first. Well, even before I received my own Native Union POP Phone, the beau had already shared a good number of benefits one can get from using this retro handset.
Whether you're using an iPhone, a Samsung Galaxy, a Sony Xperia, an LG Optimus, a Blackberry, or any other querty or smartphones, the Native Union POP Phone is compatible. You can of course use it with your tablet, laptop or even with a desktop.
The Native Union POP Phone comes in with a 3.5mm plug. It's basically compatible with virtually every audio jack. However, older phones may not support it. Just like how I can't ram the plug into my ancient and battle-scarred Nokia 1662 (with 2.5mm jack).
It fits like a dream to my Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 though.
Aside from using it for phone calls, the Native Union POP Phone can also be used to listen to music! I know, I know, it sure feels weird listening to music from a handset. It reminded me of the times I'd patiently wait for customer representatives to unhold my call after letting me rot listening to their looping phone on hold music. But hey, if this is your thing though, we won't judge you. (As consolation, I tried doing it myself a few times.)
After personally experiencing the Native Union POP Phone, I can definitely say that I approve of this product. I might not bring it with me when I go out, but it has been a nice phone accessory to have at home -- perfect for making telebabads with the beau, and perfect for my mom whose cellphone calls usually last for 3 hours.

You might be wondering why I suddenly became interested after being a skeptic at first. Well, even before I received my own Native Union POP Phone, the beau had already shared a good number of benefits one can get from using this retro handset.
- It's very comfortable to use, especially if you talk on the phone for a very long time as it won't heat up the way a mobile phone would.
- No more accidentally pressing buttons on your phone.
- It keeps you away from your actual phone minimizing absorbed radiation.
- Calls are definitely clearer. I've been on the receiving end when the beau was using his POP Phone, and I can attest the sound quality became a lot better.
- As a traditional handset, it's easier to hold with your hand or even cradling it in between your neck and shoulder than you would with a mobile phone.
- You can use it on your tablet or PC. Make your calls via Skype, Viber and other VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) feel like a telephone call.
- It's easy and comfortable to grip with its soft and rubberized texture.
- It also has a built-in pick-up and hang-up button for added convenience.

Haha size with the samsung mega made it seem right indeed
ReplyDeleteTrue, true! :D It would look so weird to place the POP Phone and a really small smartphone side by side. Haha!
Deletecute phone accessory :)
ReplyDeletei love this cute phone accessory and its not that expensive too..
ReplyDeleteCarl: Ang cute. Ang cute ng phone and color. Ang cool nito. I saw a read one sa friend ko kaya it really looks familiar when I saw your post. 1,200 is fair enough price for this cool gadget
ReplyDeleteWhat a very clever innovation! With this, long telebabad sessions over cellphones become much much easier to bear! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, very much so! It's really uncomfortable to talk over a cellphone for long hours.
DeleteNice and useful innovation indeed!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know such exist but with the looks of it.. all i can say its cool and the color is hippy! good thing it fits new phones. :)
ReplyDeleteWow this is interesting, I didn't know this existed and is available for sale. It's rather convenient based on your review, but I will still think if I want this hehehe XD

ReplyDeleteThis is cool, and quite functional too. Great for those long and interesting conversations.
ReplyDeletewith all the advantages and reasons you mentioned, now I am thinking of buying one too! My calls with my mother usually last 30 minutes (or even longer) and after each calls, my leg hurts as well as my hands even my head (I am blaming radiation for that) with Native Union Pop Phone, I am sure head aches and the likes will be prevented.
ReplyDeleteTrue! So far I haven't experienced hand and leg pains, but yes, I've had headaches na rin in addition sa pag-init ng ears. I think the POP Phone is a must for people who use talk over the cellphone for really long hours.
DeleteYou know, I've been thinking of getting one of these things. This is great to use at home, for multi-tasking. Would like the red one, for the ultimate retro look.
ReplyDeleteRed would really look nice and so retro nga! :D
DeleteI thought I'm the only one who reacted that way when I first saw it on hollywood stars! 0_0 (you already have your smartphone why purchase a landline LOL just kidding) But now reading your post, it makes a lot of sense, you don't need to bring it with you everywhere you go, you can just used it at home.I'm not sure if ill feel like using it while listening to music though but I have to try it first I guess hahaha
ReplyDeleteHaha! We're on the same wavelength, Yna! I was thinking too why they'd get something that looks like a landline. Parang pabaliktad na ang tech world. Before, the smaller the phone the better. Now, the bigger it is, the better. Pati handset ng landline binalik. XD But yes, the POP Phone has a lot of benefits when you know what it's for. :)
DeleteSo cuteee! First saw this from my boss before. She uses it on her car because she used to talk a lot on the phone while driving :D She has the purple one. It's so cool and yes, perfect for telebabad! :D Mainit kasi yung phone sa tenga mismo pag matagal na talk. :D
ReplyDeleteTrue! Every time nga nagtetelebabad ako sa cellphone, pulang-pula na agad tenga ko. Haha! If I change it up naman and place it on my other ear, mahina masyado since mas gamit ko kanan. XD
DeleteThis definitely fits well with people who used to (or still do) chat with friends on the phone for hours. LOL :)
ReplyDeleteDahil nabasa ko ang interview ninyo heart to heart ni Pareng Senyor, simula ngayon, isa na kong tambay sa crib mo. ehehe..
ReplyDeleteNice to know you.
*Pareng Cyron was here*-
P.S. Crush na kita. <3
DeleteI love doing telebabad with my BF so the Native Union Pop phone is perfect! There's a lot of similar ones in the market but I guess it was just copied and probably the sound quality is not good. I love retro stuff and this retro phone is cool I want one in my soon to be home.
ReplyDeleteThis is cool.. Something unique hehehe
ReplyDeleteI'll look for this one here in Davao.
Thank you for the review
Wow unique and super cool phone accessory
ReplyDeleteAy! May ganito pala!
ReplyDeleteIf you're a female chances are that you've heard a bit of talk about the dating free phonecalls rules for women. Unfortunately, there's more to dating than meets the eye. Women are often left wondering how they should handle phone calls with the man they are involved with.
