Blog Anniversary Giveaway #5: Earle's Delicatessen

Aside from steaks, another carnivorous guilty pleasure I enjoy are deli meats. Ham, sausages, meatloaf, salami, pastrami -- you name it, I probably love it. However, I'm not a purist when it comes to my deli meats. Many enjoy them eaten as is. But for some reason, I enjoy my delis in sandwiches or in salad form. But whether you're a purist or not, one deli meat provider in the metro will surely satisfy your fix, like how it did mine.

It was just a few months ago that I finally got to try Earle's Delicatessen. I've been seeing their stores in Ortigas and in Makati. However, I used to think they only have deli meats for take out. It wasn't until last October that I found out they actually offer deli meat subs, sandwiches and salads for sit-down. So with my friend Ronn in tow, we headed to Earle's Delicatessen in Greenbelt 1 which is said to be their biggest store as of yet.

Of course, you can also buy deli meats, ribs, corned beef brisket and more for take out. Earle's Delicatessen also carries other grocery items, by the way. They have packed noodles, canned artichokes, bottled risotto grains, jams, sauces, condiments and more.

But let's now go straight to business as I share the deli meat-infused dishes we enjoyed when we dined at Earle's Delicatessen in Greenbelt 1...

✓ Classic Italian (P156)

The first we had was the Classic Italian Sandwich which comes with smoked pizza pepperoni, smoked beef salami and honey ham in Italian dressing. Of course, it also has the sandwich staples: onions and TLC. It might not look too big, but it's definitely a deli-packed sandwich that can leave you filling full. Even when Ronn and I shared this item, we still felt really satisfied after finishing our half. It's very satisfying taste-wise too. Just look at those layers of cold cuts and tell me if that isn't a thing of deli meat beauty!

✓ Asian Green Salad (Side P95; Entree P139)

We also tried the Asian Green Salad made with lettuce, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, oranges and slices of smoked chicken roast in an Asian dressing. This is another hit for us as the chicken slices were just so soft and so enjoyable. It had a delicate smoky flavor that blends really well with the refreshing salad ensemble. The bread pan was a bonus too! By the way, we only had the side dish portion, but this is also available as an entree.

Lamb Sausage (P220)

We were almost too full, but seeing this new item -- the Lamb Sausage, convinced me to push my stomach's capacity even further. Unlike the first 2 items, this sandwich is pretty straight-forward -- just the lamb sausage sitting on a bun, served with mustard and ketchup as condiments, and a pack of mint jelly on the side. If you're a big fan of lamb, this is worth checking out. It's not as juicy as I expected it to be, but it definitely had the signature lamb flavor with hints of smokiness. An enjoyable treat for lamb meat lovers.

I didn't post it here, but Earle's Delicatessen offers teas and milk teas as refreshments. My friend and I got to try one variant each. But unfortunately, I forgot to take photos since we were already so thirsty then. Maybe I'll update this post after my next visit.

THE VERDICT

After our visit to Earle's Delicatessen, I believe my love for deli meats had significantly grown. While it's nice to eat cold cuts at home, I personally enjoy eating them in restaurants. And of course, what better place to order them than in a shop specializing in deli meats? Even my friend Ronn who's initially not a fan of cold cuts, somehow became a convert. This speaks a lot for the quality of what we got to try at Earle's. So the next time I'm out in Pasig or Makati, I'm sure to drop by this deli shop for a quick fix!
